The Diva Strikes Again!

I came home to discover another book package from my friend, The Diva.  She's on a mission to get me to read different genres this year.  And with that mission in mind, she sent me Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.  She's right, I would never buy this book.  But now that I have it, I must read it because somehow there's an unspoken acceptance of her challenge.

Now, I've heard of the book before.  The fact that everyone is raving about it didn't stir me.  Even though it's on the New York Times best seller list, it still didn't move me read it.  Of course, once I received the book I had to call The Diva, tell her how naughty she had been by sending me another surprise book.  The next thing I did was call one of my girlfriends who works with me and tell her about the book.

In an unprecedented turn of events I've been given a mission, which I have accepted.  My mission is to read the book to the girls at the office during our lunch hour.  I will do my best when reading it aloud so that the girls may absorb all that the book has to offer.

Well, it's been told that in order to be a writer and write well, a writer should read - a lot.  I don't know the first thing about writing romance and I know even less about writing erotic romance.  So Fifty Shades of Grey has now become research.  I might learn a thing or two...about writing, of course.

One last thing before I go,

Diva, the ladies thank you.

  1. I rarely hold my tongue, but I will this time. Kind off... Let's just say that 50 pages into the reading, I wanted to stab my own eyes. I finished the book because I always finish what I start, but there were times when my brain wanted to jump out of my head and slap me.

Hm, guess I didn't hold my tongue after all. Sorry. But, para el gusto se hicieron los colores, right? Let's see how you feel about it. You write great reviews, so I can't wait to read your take on it.

P.S. I added BECOME by Ali Cross to my reading list ;-)

    1. Tell me about it! I've stopped reading a couple of times to rant but I was told to shut up and keep reading. LOL! I may not care for it but my friends like it. I'm not going to review it because I'm afraid of the lynch mob.

  2. I have to agree with Magaly. I bought the ebook version on Amazon and was excited to read it. I generally like smutty romance. However halfway through the book (about the first sex scene) I had to stop reading. It's just not my taste and the writing itself is horrendous. It says a lot about my unwillingness to give up that I even put it down. Believe me I rarely give up on a movie or book because I'm always thinking it can get better. This one was just the exception.

    1. And I agree with you. This book is written in first person and usually that doesn't bother me but it does with this book. I'm a little hot and bothered because the book didn't stray from the usual formula which goes like this: Tall, gorgeous, rich, dominant male interacts with beautiful, sometimes feisty, sometimes timid virgin. He's always well endowed and no matter how the love scene unfolds, it is fantastic and she's multi-orgasmic. I was annoyed to have predicted her virginity from the beginning. And yes, he's considerably large and she loved it. I'm very annoyed.

    2. I have no problem with "Tall, gorgeous, rich, dominant" if the writing wasn't so atrocious. It was like pulling teeth, but I finished the series. I wanted to make sure that I was talking from reading experience when I said anything about the work.

    1. I'm not enjoying it. However, I'm enjoying my friends' reactions because they're enjoying it.

  4. Normally I don't read the trendy Top 10 books but a friend said I had to read it. What a crappy book. First of all it is very poorly written. Take out all the blushing, biting of her bottom lip, his flannel pants hanging on his hips and you could cut the book in half. The other half of the book Ava has multiple orgasms even when Christian says her name. Oh, and she is a virgin and she gives him a mind blowing b.j. on her first attempt. Ya, right. The sex scenes (the reason everyone is reading the book) were not that good. All that aside, it is a typical story that a teenager would like. The whole bad guy/good girl and her love will save him. The entire book was crap!

At least in my humble opinion. ;-)
